Apply for Funding
If you wish to apply for funding for a project to commemorate the War of 1812, please contact the Federal Secretariat, Bicentennial of the War of 1812.
The Secretariat is responsible for administering the 1812 Commemoration Fund, a three-year funding initiative created under the Department of Canadian Heritage to support community-based projects related to the 200th Anniversary of the War of 1812. The goal of the 1812 Commemoration Fund is to foster greater awareness and understanding among Canadians of the importance of the War of 1812 in our history.
The Secretariat also works in collaboration with other programs within the Department of Canadian Heritage that offer funding opportunities for projects related to the War of 1812. The Secretariat can, therefore, help you by directing you to the most appropriate program for your project.
A wide-range of project types can be considered under the Department of Canadian Heritage, including (but not limited to) commemorative events and ceremonies, learning materials, exhibits, historical re-enactments, interpretive programming and tours, festivals, plaques and monuments, documentary films, educational websites, interactive new media content, theatrical and musical performances, artwork and research projects.
The Department of Canadian Heritage can also consider a wide-range of Canadian funding applicants, including (but not limited to) non-profit organizations, educational institutions, Aboriginal organizations, municipal, provincial and territorial governments and private sector companies (for projects with non-profit goals).
In order to be directed to the most appropriate funding program, it is important that you contact us to discuss your project idea.
